How to prepare a perfect cup of coffee

Coffee is not just a daily habit. It is a long-lasting, loving relationship. Many times during a day we long for a cup of coffee. Early in the morning when we wake up, later at midday when we need a tasty “stimulant”, in the afternoon with our sweet tooth or after a delicious dinner.

But do you know how to prepare the perfect cup of coffee?

A few days ago, we visited a Starbucks store and their Coffee Master, Panagiotis Spyropoulos shared with us the secrets of preparing the perfect coffee. And I, in turn, will share my knowledge with you.

When we want to make a cup of coffee at home or in the office, there are three key elements that need to be taken into consideration:

The coffee variety (blended or unique origin coffee)

Starbucks has over 11 different varieties of coffee: blends and unique origin coffee beans, from which we can choose, depending on the time of the day and how we would like to enjoy our coffee.

The right proportion

The ideal dosage for preparing the perfect cup of coffee in a French press is 2 tablespoons of coffee (10 grams) for each 180 ml of water. If we prefer to enjoy our coffee cold, we just double the coffee dosage; 4 tablespoons of coffee (20g) for each 180ml of water.

The appropriate method

Coffee experts suggest that the best cup of coffee is prepared in a traditional French press. Coffee presses produce rich coffee, with a fine sediment and a stronger body than the one prepared with a filter coffee maker. The quality of coffee depends heavily on the quality of the water which is used for its preparation, so it is recommended to use fresh tap water or still water. Bring the water to boil at 90 to 96 degrees Celsius and add it to the coffee, stir and leave the plunger for four minutes before pressing it. Your coffee is ready to be served.

In case, you prefer your coffee lighter, use the dosage mentioned above and dilute with more hot water afterwards. In that way, all the flavors and the aromas of the coffee beans are being extracted.
